Heal with Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Healing Through the Mind Body Connection
Trauma is not stored only in our memories. It can also live in our bodies, shaping how we respond to stress, relationships, and everyday life long after the original experience has passed. You may understand why you feel anxious, disconnected, emotionally reactive, or stuck, yet still find yourself repeating the same patterns. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy offers a different path by working with both the mind and nervous system to support meaningful and lasting healing.
What Is Sensorimotor Psychotherapy?
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is a trauma informed, body centered approach that integrates neuroscience, attachment theory, and mindfulness with traditional talk therapy. Rather than focusing only on thoughts or memories, SP helps us understand how trauma and overwhelming experiences continue to influence emotions, behaviors, relationships, and physical sensations.
By developing greater awareness of your body's responses, we can gently explore the survival patterns that once helped protect you while creating new experiences that promote greater flexibility, resilience, and connection.
How Does Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Work?
Healing begins with creating a strong therapeutic relationship and helping you develop a sense of safety within yourself and the therapy process. Sessions move at a pace that feels collaborative, supportive, and manageable.
Through mindful awareness of thoughts, emotions, body sensations, movement, posture, and nervous system responses, we begin to understand how past experiences continue to shape your present life. Rather than reliving trauma, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy helps create new experiences that allow your nervous system to respond with greater flexibility and choice.
Many clients are surprised to discover that meaningful healing can occur without repeatedly recounting painful memories.

My Approach
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is one of the primary approaches I use in my practice and serves as the foundation of much of my trauma work. I have completed all three levels of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy training and integrate this approach with EMDR, psychodynamic psychotherapy, attachment theory, mindfulness, and parts work to create treatment that is individualized for each client.
I believe symptoms are often adaptations rather than flaws. Together, we work to understand the experiences that shaped those patterns while helping your nervous system develop greater flexibility, resilience, and connection.
What to Expect During Your First Session
Your first session is not about telling your entire story or revisiting traumatic memories.
Instead, we will focus on getting to know one another, understanding what brings you to therapy, discussing your goals, and beginning to build a strong therapeutic relationship. If appropriate, I may introduce simple mindfulness or body awareness exercises to help you become more aware of your nervous system in a way that feels comfortable and manageable.
The pace of therapy is always collaborative. You remain in control of the process, and we move forward only when it feels appropriate.
Why Work With Brian Goldstein, LMFT?
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a highly specialized approach that requires extensive training beyond traditional graduate education. Because trauma affects both the mind and the body, I believe treatment should address both.
My advanced training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR, attachment theory, and psychodynamic therapy allows me to tailor treatment to each client's unique history, goals, and nervous system. Rather than following a one size fits all approach, we work together to create therapy that supports meaningful and lasting healing.
Begin Your Healing
Healing does not mean forgetting the past. It means developing a different relationship with it.
If you are looking for a therapy approach that addresses both the emotional and physiological effects of trauma, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy may be an excellent fit. I would be honored to support you in that process.
